USE PUSH & PULL DAYS TO RECOVER FASTER BETWEEN WORKOUTS

10 March 2022

Steve Brewer

It’s almost been a year since we opened, and with every class, we get to know you a little better.

Today we’re announcing a new structure to our Group PT classes. Understanding the needs of our members is one of our core values. It’s what helps us make Halo a happy place. We want our group classes to be the most personalised you can find, and one of the tools we have to do this is technology, and the platform Steve and I are building together.

From now today, Group PT will follow a push and pull structure that will help you progress faster, and I’ll explain how.

Push and pull

Each class will now be divided into a push or a pull day. Training in one direction allows your body to recover the following day when we switch direction. When you only do push exercises on Monday, those muscles will rest while you do pull exercises on Tuesday. By Wednesday, your push muscles are ready to train again.

Push

In these exercises, you push the weight away from your body, usually involving these muscles:

Chest
Shoulders
triceps
Quadriceps
Buttocks

Pull

In these exercises, you pull the weight towards you, usually involving these muscles:

Back
Trapezoids
Biceps
Hamstrings
Lumbar

By the end of the week, your body won’t feel so tired, as we’ve distributed your workouts evenly throughout the week. This makes it easier to train harder, and make faster progress achieving your goals.

Every 6 weeks we’ll do a rest week, where we lower the weights by 60% and focus on the correct execution of each exercise, so your body will rest from the load that you have lifted for more than a month and fine-tune details in posture.

After a rest week, your body will be ready to resume training, feeling recharged and stronger.

The best part is you don't have to think about any of this, our trainers will plan all of this for you. All you have to do is record your weights in Halometre and the difficulty of each exercise. This tells your trainer the last time you did a given exercise, how much weight you lifted and whether you’re ready to increase.

It doesn't matter if you just joined Halo, we tailor the class to you.

Finally, when you finish the class you can now rate it and leave us comments to help us make your experience the best it can be in every class!

See you in class!
